How HourBack handles information
Two parts: this website, and the HourBack app that runs during a pilot. Last updated October 27, 2026.
This website
When you request a pilot, we receive what you type into the form (work email, company, team and team size), the page you sent it from, and your country as reported by our hosting provider. We use it only to contact you about HourBack, and we don't sell or share it.
The site sets no advertising or tracking cookies. Visit counts come from our hosting provider's privacy-friendly analytics, which don't use cookies or identify you.

The HourBack app
During a pilot, a light app on each participant's computer notes how work happens so the team can see where time goes. Each company agrees an employee charter with its people before anything is installed.
What it notes
- Which apps, websites and screens are in use, and for how long
- The names of form fields filled in (for example "Assignment group"), not what was typed
- That information moved from one app to another, and whether it was pasted or retyped
- Pauses and waits in a piece of work
- Dropdown choices on fields a company specifically lists, only if it turns this on
What it never keeps
- Screenshots, screen recordings or audio
- Keystrokes, passwords or anything from password fields
- What was copied to the clipboard
- Chat apps, personal email, banking and other excluded apps and sites
Protections on the computer
- Names, email addresses, phone numbers, dates of birth, driver's license and Social Security numbers and record IDs are removed before anything is saved.
- Values that move between apps are compared using one-way codes and never stored.
- Each person can pause, switch to private mode, or delete the last hour at any time.
Who sees what
- Each person sees their own report first, and no one else sees it.
- Leaders see results for teams of five or more people, never for an individual.
- Work done by fewer than five people is pooled so no one can be singled out.
